Yearbooks are on sale for 25 dollars.   These are still available contact Mrs. Novosel or see Mrs. Evans if you would like to purchase one.

Texas Roadhouse coupons as well as Pizza Hut coupons were issued for those who read.

Our Field Trip has been tentatively rescheduled for May 19th to White Clay Creek State Park.  As soon as I get approval I will send home the slips.  This is a rocks and minerals trip. 

Thank you to all parents who have donated supplies for the classroom.  If you have not donated any supplies for the second or third trimester your donations would be very much appreciated.  We could really use tissues and hand sanitizer to get us through to the end of the year.  Thank you so very much. 

Family Foundations Academy was approved to expand to a K-7 school next year and then a K-8 school the following year.  If you know of anyone who would like to attend please have them fill out an application online or come to the office. 

This week we are celebrating and learning about Hispanic culture.  We will be doing many activities surrounding Cinco de Mayo. 

School wide spelling bee May 19th.  The three finalists from our class will be chosen on Friday. 

Thank you to Jordan's, Amoni's, Jaymie's, and Susanna's families for supplying us with wonderful food for multi-cultural week.   It was delicious!

A BIG thank you to Mrs. Thompson who supplied us with enough tissues and paper towels for the rest of the year. 

Thank you to Mrs. Hibbert for supplying us with a big bottle of sanitizer.

Thank you to Mrs. Lofton for donating many items through out the school year.

About the Teacher

My name is Amy Novosel.  This is my fourth year of teaching third grade and my eighth year of teaching.  In the past I have taught first, fifth and sixth grade.  My teaching philosophy includes planning hands-on creative lessons that keep the children actively engaged in what we are learning. I really believe in Confucius's saying:

I hear and I forget.

I see and I remember.

I do and I understand.

Class News

Week of May 3rd

 

Reading In celebration of Cinco de Mayo we are reading Pepita Talks Twice.  The vocabulary words will be sent home on May 4th.  Many of them are familiar to the students.  We are learning about the best ways to solve problems as well as celebrate the Hispanic culture.

Math- The students finished chapter 18 successfully with an average grade of an 84.  A little lower than I would like, but I will work with students individually who are still struggling.  Chapter 19 is considerably easier and we will begin this chapter on May 5th.  We have been studying comparing and ordering fractions. 

English- Students are reviewing nouns, adjectives, and synonyms.

Social Studies- Cinco de Mayo

Science- Water Cycle

Spelling- Preparing for the Spelling Bee

Writing- Problem Solution Essay

Eduplace is a great companion website for the Houghton Mifflin curriculum.  It offers extra practice as well as online educational games.  For those of you who love to challenge your children you can access fourth and fifth grade math worksheets.
