New this week:
Field Trip Permission Slip for the Camden aquarium with payment is due on September 14. No exceptions. Please send in permission slip and money at the same time. Chaperones are needed!!!!
The grace period for turning in homework is over. Homework for each class must be completed and turned in daily. A student will lose recess if homework is not completed the first time. If homework is not completed for a second time then the student will receive a referral for incomplete homework. A detention will be assigned by administration. The parent will be notified of the detention at least 24 hours in advance. This year detention is 4:30-6:00.
In order to ensure that we have a successful year, the 5th grade team has set clear rules and expectations for our students:
1. Students are expected to complete homework every night and have it commpleted and ready to turn in by the assigned due date.
2. Students are ALWAYS responsible for all of their actions, behaviors and interactions with others.
3. If a student is absent, they will have however many days they were absent to make up the work that they missed.
4. Students should always be prepared for class with sharpened pencils and other necessary materials listed on the supply list. Students who are not prepared for class will receive a recess detention.
5. Students need to be at school and in the classroom by 9:00 a.m. at the absolute latest.
6. Students may not have gum at anytime. Snacks are allowed at lunch time only.
7. We have a zero tolerance policy for students who do not follow uniform dress code. Students dressed out of code will be sent to Mrs. Roberts until they are in proper uniform.
8. Students will be monitored on a behavior chart:
- green: on task, Everyone starts the day on green.
- yellow: First warning for off task behavior. Five minutes off recess.
- orange: Second warning for off task behavior. Fifteen minutes off recess.
- red: Student persists in off task behavior. Student will be sent to Mrs. Roberts or Mr. Moore. No recess. Parent contact.
Quality work will be expected from fifth grade students at all times:
- Name and date at the top of the page.
- Answers written in complete sentences, cursive only.
- Papers are clean, neat and unwrinkled.
Goals for the Year
Students, as citizens of the world, will possess a knowledge of geography, economics, civics, and history and be able to apply this knowledge to life situations.
Geography knowledge will help students understand the relationships of people, places, and environments from the perspective fo where they occur, why they are here, and what meaning those locations have for us.
Economics knowledge will help students understand how individuals and societies produce, allocate, distribute, and expend resources.
Civics knowledge will help students understand citizenship education and the assumptions upon which governments are founded. With regards to the United States, students will learn the underlying principles of the rule of law.
Historical knowledge will enable students to study the ways in which individuals and societies have changed and interacted over time.
In response to this, perhaps students will use Social Studies as a basis for choosing a career as a historian, economist, anthropologist, politician, geographer, cartographer, attorney, sociologist, archivist, urban planner, professor, government leader, congressional aide, researcher or a Social Studies teacher.
