About the Teacher

Our Music Teacher and Choral Director

Mrs. Kelly K. Rawley Evans, native of Newark, Delaware is currently the Music Teacher and Choral Director at Family Foundations Academy Charter School in New Castle, Delaware, where she has been teaching for five years (Spanish teacher in '07-'08).  She has also served as the school picture taker and yearbook editor and continues to help coordinate special programs and events, such as the winter and spring concerts, the DCAS rally and the school-wide talent show for students, parents and staff enjoyment.

 

As a certified music educator for K-12, Mrs. Evans has over 12 years of teaching experience and has taught elementary chorus, general music and orchestra in both North Carolina and Delaware.  She has also conducted music workshops for high school students and gospel music workshops for youth and adults and served as piano accompanist for many schools, churches and choral festivals.

 

Since the age of 7, Mrs. Evans has played the piano.  She participated in the Delaware All-State Chorus and in elementary, middle and high school choruses.  Mrs. Evans holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education with a concentration in piano and concert choir from Fayetteville State University (FSU) in Fayetteville, North Carolina and is pursuing a Masters degree in Music Education.

 

Mrs. Evans is a private piano and vocal instructor and a published songwriter and arranger and has composed songs for choirs and groups in Delaware, Virginia and North Carolina.  She co-produced husband, Joe Evans’ Motivational Speaking CD, “If You Believe, You Can Achieve.”  Mrs. Evans currently serves as the Musical Director for the Covington Ensemble, H.T. Harmon Youth Choir and Women’s Choir of Simpson United Methodist Church in Wilmington, DE.

 

Mrs. Evans is married to Joe Evans, President of Tutoring Works Plus, Inc. and is the proud mother of three beautiful children, Bria, 12 years, Tobais, 9 years and Trinity, 6 years old.

Classroom Rules and Expectations

Music Rules and Expectations

 

 

#1 - Be a good listener

Follow directions the first time they are given.

 

#2 – Be prepared

Enter quietly having all necessary materials and assignments.

 

#3 – Be respectful

Respect the people, equipment and furnishings of the music room.

 

#4 – Be focused

Always do your best and focus on the lesson.

 

#5 – Be an outstanding student

Follow all school rules.

 

Consequences

IF YOU CHOOSE to BREAK a MUSIC RULE

 

First Time:  Teacher will give the student a warning

 

Second Time:  Teacher will move the student’s seat within the group and have a teacher/student conference.  Student will sign the behavior book and/or complete a “Think Sheet.”

 

Third Time:  Teacher will move the student’s seat away from the group to the independent desk.  Student will sign the behavior book and/or complete a “Think Sheet.”  Parent will be contacted.

 

Fourth Time:  Teacher will send student to the Dean’s office

and student will receive a written referral.

 

Major offenses (i.e. fighting, inappropriate language, disrespecting the teacher) will result in an immediate dismissal to the Dean’s office.

 

 

Rewards

 

Weekly:  Praise, Good Grades and the Joy of Learning

 

Random:  Stickers, Music Tickets, Treats, Music Certificates given

 

Marking Period:  Music Movie Day or Music Game Day

 

Throughout the Year:  Playing Instruments, Performances, Field Trip or Activity, etc.

Goals for the Year

  General Music:  (Grades K-5)

Our general music class is designed for students to acquire a basic and fundamental working knowledge   of music.  Students will learn the five elements of music: rhythm, melody, harmony, timbre and form by reading and writing, singing, performing, moving, composing and improvising, and listening to music.  Students will also be introduced to a wide variety of classroom instruments, such as rhythm sticks, recorders, boomwhackers and many more.  This class meets Delaware Content Standards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9.
