About the Teacher

Welcome to Kindergarten!!!

Hello everyone! My name is Mrs. Sarah George and I am so excited to be teaching Kindergarten at Family Foundations Academy. This is my second year at FFA and my 4th year teaching, as I have taught both Kindergarten and First grade previously. I am originally from Pennsylvania but I now live in the area with my husband. We met during college where we both attended the University of Delaware. While attending UD I majored in Foreign Languages and Literatures with a concentration in Spanish Studies. After I graduated, I soon realized that I loved children and always have. I then decided that I wanted to dedicate my life to educating them!  So I then went to Wilmington University to get my Master's Degree in Elementary Education. I am also certified in Special Education.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, family and friends. My husband Tim and I love to travel and enjoy watching many sports -- we are big Eagles and Phillies fans!! We have 2 cats, Bentley and Sydney and we love to spoil them! I also love to read, listen to music, cook and exercise! My favorite season is Fall, however, I love the beach!

I am really looking forward to working with my Kindergarteners this year!

Classroom Rules and Expectations

Dear Parents and Families,

As part of our behavior management in the classroom we have a "Traffic Light" with each child’s name on a clothes pin.  They start each day on the “right side of green”. Anytime students are on the “right side of green”, he or she is having a great day.  After they are given warnings about a specific behavior two times they move their clothes pin to the “wrong side of green”.  This means he or she is still having a good day but need to be reminded more than once. If they need to be spoken to again, they move their pin down to yellow, which still means they are having an alright day but could be doing better, or have some behaviors they are working on.  If they continue to have to be reminded to follow the rules and behaviors of the school then they will change their clothes pin to red.  Your child does have a chance to move their color back over to the right side if they have worked really hard at improving their behavior or if they have done a great job and earned it.

For example, a child might be having a difficult time following directions in the morning, maybe he or she is not raising his or her hand and has continued to call out and disrupt a lesson, or he or she is being unkind to another student, etc. He or she will move to the “wrong side of green” first. If the behavior continues, he or she will move down to the “wrong side of yellow”. However, if the student corrects his or her behavior and is showing improvement, his or her name will move to the “right side of yellow”. If good behavior continues, it can move back up to the “right side of green”. The clip moves in a counter-clockwise direction and moves over, to the right, and eventually up if good behavior continues. We focus on positive reinforcement and redirection. This Positive Behavior System has been effective in every classroom in which I have used it in the past. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at all!

Thanks!
