2nd Grade - Ms. Monique Taylor

Notes For Parents

Children will be bringing home their Take-Home folders each night, starting the week after Labor Day.  The folder has space for their homework and take-home papers.  There is also lined paper in the folder for either teacher or parent notes.  The sticker incentive chart on the front of the folder will indicate if they had a good conduct day at school.  If they do not receive a sticker on a given day, I will try to write you a quick note or contact you by telephone or e-mail.

There are still quite a few pink nurse’s office forms not returned as yet.  Please try to return them as soon as possible.

We are having some “pencil problems.”  It is taking too long for children to sharpen pencils in class.  Please make sure your child sharpens pencils at home and comes prepared with several sharp pencils each day.

About the Teacher

Greetings to Parents/Guardians of 2nd Grade- C139 students!

My name is Mrs. Rena Winter and I will be your 2nd Grade child’s teacher this year.  I was very pleased to meet half of you at our Open House on Wednesday, August 24th!  For those of you who were unable to attend, I would like to give you some background information concerning myself.

This is my 25th year of full-time teaching in Delaware.  I taught 2nd and 3rd grade for twelve years in the Christina School District.  I also taught 2nd Grade for one year overseas in Caracas, Venezuela, S.S. in an international year.  For the past eleven years I have been teaching at St. Matthew School in the Diocese of Wilmington which included three years teaching 1st Grade and the most recent eight years in Art Education for Grades K through 8th.

In addition to full-time teaching, I have also worked part-time for eight years with the Even-Start migrant education program in Kennett Square, PA, teaching English as a second language to Kindergarten students.

I have also done a lot of substitute teaching and tutoring in primary level reading and language arts.

I received my B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Millersville University of Pennsylvania and M.S. Ed degree from the University of Delaware.  I have also completed some post-graduate work at West Chester University of PA.

I live with my family in Landenberg, Pennsylvania, a one-half hour commute to FFA.  I’m the mother of two grown sons and a daughter, and am also a first time grandmother of a one-year old granddaughter.

Aside from teaching, I enjoy reading, art work, hiking in the woods, and traveling when possible.

I’m looking forward to working with your child, this year in 2nd Grade, and meeting you all!
